Anyway, so I never had much joy shopping at Matalan, just the odd bits and bobs and one pair of shoes which I love to death and would gladly buy 5 more back-up pairs if I could, but that's it. So then Matalan started selling online, I thought this was a smart move by them and that I would now be able to get my hands on some bargains. Nah-uh. The best stuff was either not available online or sold out in most sizes. I gave up up.
Maybe the website was in teething stages or something because today I got a Matalan promotional booklet through the door which tempted me back online. Bits I liked from the magazine weren't available online (aaargh) but I will forgive this as I found a few lovely bargains. These are all office clothes, so won't appeal to everyone, but I think I've got a couple of great staples here and a few silly extravagances, but hey they were cheap!
This dress is my favourite of the haul. I think it will be flaterring on because of the length, the scoop neck, the structured waist and pin tucks and I adore bows, so obviously I had to have it. The sleeves could have been a little longer, but I couldn't resist because of the bow. As if I needed another excuse to add this to my basket, it was reduced to £10! I did actually need a new plain-ish black dress and it will go lovely with coloured tights.
This dress is a lot less 'fashion' but I think it will be great for the office and no other colour makes more of a statement than this. Definately be be worn on a day when I have something to say! I ummed and aarred a lot about this one, but I thought I'd give it a try. It might be really good with grey tights and black knee-high boots, perhaps also my long black open cardigan if I'm not feeling brave enough for the full on red. It's got similar qualities to the black dress, good length, structure waist, pin tucks plus it's got more of a sleeve to it. The neck-line is not so great on this one but it will give different jewellery options. This one was full price and still only £18!
I got these two tops to wear under suits. I absolutely feel for people who don't wear a suit often, looking awkward because they feel they have to wear a shirt with a suit. They then have a little battle with whether to tuck the collar ubnder the jacket or flip it over the lapels of the jacket. Scary stuff. I don't like to look like a stiff when I have to wear a suit. I've got a few nice suits and I think these tops will be really nice under my navy blue and maybe also my dark grey. £12 for the purple (also comes in mustard) and £14 for the blue which also comes in emerald and I think silver.
I couldn't help myself getting all three of these. They were just £12. Suede shoes never last long as they get damaged really easily if they get wet or scuffed, but it's not like they're an every day shoe anyway! Primark have been selling shoes just like these and I tried to get them before I went on holiday but they didn't have my size. I have a feeling they may have been more than £12 too! I'm going to mix and match these, brightening up a plain outfit, and mix and matching them with coloured tights and dresses. I have some lovely jersey dresses from asos, one dark pink, one blue and one grey and they're getting a bit boring, so these will definately breathe some new life into them for this season.
Phew, all that for £90. Thumbs up Matalan, I will be back.
