Spotlight on duffle coats

So no diet update for a few days... the batteries have run out on my scales (how convenient!).  No, really they have and I ate pizza hut last night, so there you go.

Back to duffle coats....

Now I can't say that I'm a fan of these, but my Mum told me that she wants to get a new coat and has decided this is the type she wants.  So I started keeping my eyes peeled for her and have noticed that they're everywhere - who knew my Mum was so in vogue?

So here's a round up of the ones I've spotted.

ASOS - £70

Dorothy Perkins - £65

Ted Baker - £189

Marks and Spencer - £55

Debenhams Rocha John Rocha - £100
Next - £45

Matalan - £45
My favourites are the pink asos and yellow next - I'm actually rather tempted.  Go on Mum!

Day 3

So just a quick little update on the shhhhhhhhhh..... diet

Started Sunday.  All began well, did a Slimming World 'red' day so I had some chiken at lunch time, some cheese when I was peckish later on (from allowance) and made a special Slimming World recipe beef stew for dinner which always turns out lovely.

Prepared soup in my thermos (it's a nice pink one!) for work on Monday and had an apple for later - things went wrong in the evening because I had my brother round - there were Oreos and popcorn.  Ooops.  I'm rubbish.

Tuesday started well with ryvita and cheese spread taken to work but as you may have spotted from my twitter confession, a stressful and late day has led to biscuits for dinner.

So all in all, so far, publicly comitting to dieting has had no real effect and I would rate my efforts about a 3 out of 10.  Must try harder!

Here's something pretty (and non edible) for dieting motivation.

Slimming World

I put on 6lbs on my holiday - I got back nearly a month ago and I'm still carrying them around.  I lost 22lbs with slimming world last year after having piled on extra weight and no loger being able to get into some of my size fourteens!  After I lost that weight, I was still a size fourteen, but my clothes fit me a lot better and I did get into the odd size 12 in clothes that were cut generously.

I gave up slimming world last Christmas.  It was silly, but I love Christmas and didn't want to miss out.  So in about two weeks I put on a shocking 9lbs - such a waste of all the effort I'd made.  I never got back into the swing of it after that and now after my holiday (to Disney in the land of the burger) I've put more weight back on so in total I've put back on a whole stone of what I lost :o(

Anyway, tomorrow I'm starting again.  I know with Slimming World that if I go all out and stick to the diet religiously for the first week, I might lose about 4lbs, which would be an excellent boost to kick me off.

So there, I've announced I'm going on a diet, so I'd better stick to it!  I'm not aiming to be a size 8, or even a 10 really, I just want to shrink my stomach, bum and thighs, reduce the bingo wings and generally feel healthier.  Here goes!

Lipsy dresses... got to start planning for that Christmas party!

ETA:  I linked the pictures for this post direct from the Lipsy website and now they've taken them down they no longer show on this post.  Sorry guys, I've since learnt I need to save and loads my pictures.

So it's that time of year when I start to consider what I might want to wear to my work Christmas party.  I tend to start by thinking about what colour I'm after and work from there.

I love the dress I wore last year, it was red and silky from ASOS and the year before I wore a rich purple colour ruffle dress from Lipsy, the year before that was a deep pink silky dress from Warehouse - so as you can see, I like to work the jewel colours for Christmas!  This year I'm thinking I might quite like an emerald green or deep blue, but we'll see what I find.  The rules are as foillows:

1 - The dress must have sleeves - short sleeves, long sleeves, cap sleeves are all acceptable, but I do not do sleeveless, strapless, one shoulder, halterneck etc, all of those are an awful look on me.  I much prefer o have my arms covered.

2 - It shouldn't be too short - above the knee yes, but no thigh flashing,

3 - There should be a good shape to the dress with definition around the waste - no floaty sacks for me!

So it doesn't seem like much of a list of demands, but trust me, it narrows down my options.  Mainly because of my desire for sleeves.

ASOS is usually the first place I'd look, but they don't have much out yet, so I'll have to try again another time.  Lipsy is one of those labels where I always though it was for skinny girls and wouldn't fit me, or would be the dreaded 'one size', but actually I find their size 14 quite generous, so let's see what they have to offer.

First up is this bright purple dress which is £55

This has a nice amount of sleeve to it, but the neckline is a bit high - it might lead to a bit of the one boob look.  I like the lenght but am not so sure about the bulk adding detail on the skirt.  Not sure if the colour is Christmassy enough for my liking either.

Sequin futuristic dress £70

I really quite like this.  The only downsides I can see here are that it's black - I usually opt for something bright and eye-catching for my Christmas party and perhaps it's also not quite dressy enough.  That's a bit of an odd statement seeing as it's covered in sequins, but I think this a dress that would be versatile to wear to smaller events or even just on a regular night out

Something similar in lace - £55

I'm not really feeling this one at all.  There's something about lace + old ladies that I can't really shake out of the back of my mind.  Not Christmas party worthy.

Mesh panel shift dress £45

This is a gorgeous dress and a lovely shape.  It's got quite skimpy sleeves, but something's better than nothing.  The colour is more summer than winter though - I'd love to see this brough out in green or purple and I think I'd be sold.

Mesh panel jersey dress £45

This has been seen on Alexandra Burker and is nice, but it's much more of a posh day dress than something for a party.

Ruffle dress £55

This is beautiful, and I think it would be nice for wedding, although whether I'd venture out in a cream dress or not I'm unsure.  I think this would be quite a contender in another colour, although ruffles around the boob area only makes big boobs look even bigger.

The back's nice too.

Oragami sleeve dress £30

In the sale from £55, but not the royal or dark blue I was looking for.

Ah well, there's still ages until Christmas, so I'll keep looking.

If you'd like to take a look for yourself there's loads of other dresses, plenty without sleeves that are absolutely stunning.  Lipsy  Here's a couple of examples for those who don't suffer from bingo wings!

Time for an update!

Next boots

So I bought the boots from my 'Reasons to love Autumn' post.  They didn't have them in store so I ordered online.  For £100 I really thought they looked quite poor quality.  I just expected a heavier, thicker type of material and they were a bit flimsy.  Then came the moment of truth, trying them on my and surprise surprise, no they didn't fit my chubster legs.  They made quite a good effort, I could get them on with a bit of tugging, but it wasn't a good look and I think I may have cut off the blood to my feet had I kept them on for long, so back to Next they went.  I now have a thirst for some new knee-high boots so I guess I'll spend all winter looking for the perfect pair.  There's a lot of thigh high / over-the-knee going on at the moment, which I quite like as long as they don't look too kinky!  I have actually got some from last year but believe it or not, they're a little baggy and actually start to slide down when you walk.  From one extreme to the other, i just can't win!

Matalan Shoes

The 3 pairs of Matalan shoes I showed you in my 'Matalan wardrobe additions' post (bought in electric blue, raspberry pink and lush purple) are a definate hit!  I wore the blue to work with a blue dress and got loads of compliments, then I wore the pink with a black dress and almost matching raspberry cardigan and they were also a success.  I even wore the blue again last night with the Miss S Cutie dress and leggings - I took some photos last night so I'll see if there are any full length ones to share.  Now I need to let the purple ones out there to meet the world!

asos purchases

It's been a while, too long, since I ordered some goodies.  So here are the latest purchases.

I saw this dress in the asos magazine and I think it's going to be a real figure fixer.  The black cutting in at the sides is hopefully going to add lots of definition to my hips and waist.  Can't wait to try this on.  not sure about the flappy bit around the tummy - it will either hide lumps and bumps or accentuate them, fingers crossed its the former!  This dress is £35.

Then I got some new bling.  I'd had my eye on the bow necklace and ring for a while as you might remember from my 'Beautiful Bows' collection but was waiting for a few more things I liked as the postage is a bit much for two cheap items.

From left to right we have enamelled flowers band ring £4, enamalled bow necklace with peral centre £8 and textured gold bow ring £5.

I also got a set of my favourite eyeliners - Urban decay 24/7 which I will get someone to give to me for Christmas!  I got my first set of these the Christmas before last and I think it had 5 pencils in it.  I mainly use the black (zero) but I also really like the green, blue and purple colours.  There was a new set out last Christmas but it had a few I really wouldn't use such as red so I didn't get it.  I'm really pleased they've brought out this set which includes 9 pencils for only about £2 more than the set with 5 (or maybe it was 6?).  But anyway I really love these, they're very good liners, nice and soft and smooth so they don't drag your eye and this set has all sensible colours that I would wear.  I think my Mum would like this for Christmas too.

So that's all for this haul, oh other than I bought a top for my bf, but it's not very interesting!
