Don't worry, this is not a post about Kim Kardashian's divorce. I couldn't give a hoot about that, I'm much more interested in her make up collection! I've been coveting an amazing make up storage system ever since I first spotted the one Kim uses in the background of a scene on Keeping up with the Kardashians. It's like a clear acrylic drawer unit and she crams it full with the make up stash of dreams!

I've since found out that all of the sisters and even their Mum Kris seem to have it (the lucky things!) and it's actually called a Clear Cube. Sadly I didn't immediately rush out and buy one as they're only available in the USA and cost $300 - OMG! So this started me off on one of those annoying obsessions where I'd frequently google different ways to describe the make up box, trying to find myself a more affordable alternative. This went on for months, seriously, so you can imagine that I almost slipped off the sofa when I recently stumbled across this by accident!
It looks like a clear cube, and it holds make up like a clear cube, but it doesn't empty my bank account and run away with my overdraft like a clear cube - result! Let me introduce you to The Glambox....
I've been playing with my Glambox for a little while now and I'm so pleased I bought it. My make-up collection isn't as big or amazing as most beauty bloggers, but I still manage to make an absolute mess and leave products all over the place when I'm getting ready, so having everything so organized is amazing and so much less stressful in the mornings!
This is what my make up storage and dressing table looked like before....
Did I really just show you that? I'm so ashamed! But check out the after.....
Taaadaaaah! I can see the top of my dressing table again!
The Glambox has 7 drawers including the top one which has a flip top lid. Here are some more photos showing each one and what I've filled it up with.
I've been changing my mind a few times about what goes where. I think it makes most sense for me to sort products by category, which is what I've ended up doing. I never realised how many palettes I have until I organized everything like this, I may need to put a stop to that little obsession!
I understand that the company might start offering different sorts of dividers which you can use to separate things within each drawer (similar to what you can get with Clear Cube) but personally I'm quite happy with it the way it is.

Originally I had my glambox lid open and flipped down behind the box, so that I could have products standing up. I was also thinking about putting my brushes up there in their holders, but then I changed my mind and decided I wanted the lid shut, which is how it is now and in these photos.
I'm so pleased I finally found a version of the storage system the Kardashians use but without the LA price tag. Obviously I don't have a Clear Cube to compare with, but I'm really happy with the quality of the Glambox.
It's made such a difference to the way I use my make-up - products that were languishing unloved and hidden are now on full display and I'm using different things every morning instead of just reaching for what was at the top of my make-up bag / drawer / pile!

**2013 update - unfortunately Glambox appear to have gone out of business now and their site is no longer up. As this post still gets views and questions I've updated it to remove the links. You can find similar products here - clear makeup boxes, acrylic makeup drawers and acrylic makeup storage.**
it looks really good and i could definitely do with one in my life but i still feel like £89 is a bit steep for what is basically some plastic boxes. hopefully theres some cheaper alternatives on ebay because this really is a great storage system xx
ReplyDeleteI really want one of these! Is it tall enough to fit nail varnish in?
ReplyDeleteThis looks great, but I agree with Caroline, I don’t think I would want to spend so much on it. Love the photos btw
ReplyDeletethis has really got me interested but for me £89.99 is still very expensive for a plastic box.. hopefully i can find a cheaper alternative xx
ReplyDelete@Caroline - I know what you mean, but I've been searching for something cheaper than the clear cube for ages, and this is the best price I've found xx
ReplyDelete@Anon - you couldn't stand nail polishes up but you could store them in it laid down
@Discovering beauty - thanks hun. To me it's worth the money because I've wanted one for ages so that I can be like Kimmy K!
@Samanth19 - let me know if you do hun, it took me months to find this one! I doubt you can get a cheaper one made of acrylic as it's an expensive material - its not a flimsy plastic if you know what I mean xx
i am so jel of you and your beautiful kim k box! i have been looking for one for aggggeess and have contemplated about getting the actually clear cube far too often. this is a great alternative for a great price considering the clear cube is over $300 + $200 to ship to the uk!xxx
ReplyDeleteGreat post, this looks really good, I might pop it on my santa list!
ReplyDeleteSarah xx
This post couldn't have come at a better time, the last few days I have been searching around looking for a cheaper version of 'the clear cube' evrything I found seemed to small, but this is honestley perfect, and perfect timing, thank you so much! I do think the price is still a little high, I might have a bot more of a nosey round, but most likely I will end up buying this :) Thanks Again! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post and a fab way to store all your make-up!
ReplyDeleteI found some of these types of boxes online too, have a look at:

ReplyDeleteOh my god, that is amazing! Now shall I buy it now or put it on my Christmas list!?!? Zara x
ReplyDeleteBookmarked! This is definitely on my Christmas list. My IKEA drawers are good but unsightly! Great post, thank you! <3
ReplyDeleteI NEED one of these!!! This one looks like its only shipped in the UK but I've some similar in the US...but not one that has a top like that...I really like it opens up instead just all drawers!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I love it! I wish I'd seen this before I bought my shit vanity case haha! It's so annoying, because I can't see what's inside it and like you said things go unloved because I can't see them. I think my other half would go mad if I told him I didn't like it xxx
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a fab idea! Would be so handy!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a good collection! x
This looks amazing! But $300 price tag is a bit much! I'll have to see if Glambox ships to the US!
ReplyDeleteI got your link from twitter @marlenefrierson

Fab - I think I'd need about siX of these!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMine has just arrived!!! It looks great but the draws seem to fit really badly? They seem to stick and drop down, preventing them from closing smoothly. Cant wait to transfer all my Makeup into it xx
ReplyDeleteHi anon - I didn't have any problems with mine at all, so sorry to hear you have. I'm sure that if you drop the glam squad an email they'll sort you out xx
ReplyDeleteI ordered my glambox immediatly after seeing this post, like you I had been searching forever for a UK alternative to the cube. It finally arrived today much to my delight and I instantly began filling it with MAC goodies :) unfortunatly I've had the same issues as the anon poster above, my drawers are getting stuck almost every time i open/close them :( I came on here to see if anyone else had experienced this problem and come up with a solution to it.....? now that i have it in my life i don't want to have to send it back and wait for a new one to come :(
ReplyDeleteHi Jen - that's a real shame. As I said I've had no problems with mine at all. Have you been in touch with glambox to see what they can suggest? Here are the contact details for their site. I hope it gets sorted out for you xx

do they ship to the US? I refuse to pay $300+ for a clear cube lol.
ReplyDeletei ordered a glambox too and am having the exact same problems as the people above have posted. mine arrived and it was cracked, some of the draws were broken and they didnt work very well. i contacted glambox and they were very helpful and arranged my box to be picked up free of charge from ups the next day and sent me a new one out very quickly. sad thing is even with the new box there is a crack and the draws are pretty useless. they keep sliding down so they dont work =( such a shame. am in two minds about trying a third box or just asking for a refund xx
ReplyDeletei contacted glambox as well and they suggested swapping the drawers around to see if they worked better this way, so far this is working quite well, though i have been home in dublin for most of christmas and so have not used it often, but glad to here that they are uick to sort a replacement if i do need to do this :) thanks xx
ReplyDeleteWowza this looks like a lifesaver! Cannot WAIT to get one! Xxx
ReplyDelete8 weeks wait for new stovk to come in before they can replace my glambox!!! :(
ReplyDeleteThey told me this morning I would get mine tomorrow, I was so exited, now just a few hours later they have told me I wont be getting my order as their supplier has let them down, they arrived all broken, and it has now put them out of business :-(. Please let me know if you know of anyone else making them in the u.k
ReplyDeletei have the 5 drawer MUJI makeup organiser... great quality and price and delivery was great too...however the drawers are not deep enough for some compacts brushes pots or nail polish.... do you know a deeper drawer version for a good price?????
ReplyDeleteOnly the one I've mentioned here as that's what I use, sorry!
DeleteI'm so sad that I found this too late.
ReplyDeleteTheir site has been shut down. :(
This is the best make up storage I have seen, out of my price range sadly, but do love it.xx
ReplyDeletei recently bought two cheap plastic drawer units to organise my MU, and love being better organised. i blogged about it here...

This is what I bought yesterday.

I haven't filled it with make-up as such, but this organiser can definitely be used to store make-up, nail varnish bottles or anything that you would like to.
In the image you'll see what I have stored in this organiser. Hope someone finds this useful. It cost me just £3! ;)
Hey girl,
ReplyDeleteDo you live in the USA? If so, did you have any problems with the company shipping you this item from Australia or New Zeland where ever it is~!
Thank you,
Brooke
No sorry, I'm in the UK and I believe it was sent to me from within the UK.
DeleteCheck out www.ettica.com.au for great acrylic organisers. Shipping internationally is cheap too.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame they went out of business as so many of the alternatives are so expensive! Looks fab, what a shame xx
