Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation review

Estée Lauder Double Wear has been on my wish list for just about as long as I've had a wish list.  I was always on a mission to find a lasting foundation.  Recently, I've had better luck as I think my skin is changing and I've found some brands / formulations that suit me well, but Double Wear still left me curious.

I finally decided to take the plunge when I saw Double Wear discounted at an outlet shopping centre.  It usually costs around £26, but I was able to get it for £18.

As it was an outlet shop, they didn't have the full range of colours, but I was able to find one which seemed like a good match.  I think I'm pretty good at matching myself for foundation, although those orange girls never seem to realise they're orange, so maybe I'm in denial?!

I bought shade 4C1 outdoor beige.  It's not a discontinued colour (just seen it's available on Debenhams here)  so I'm not sure why it was discounted.

It seems quite dark in the bottle, but disappears nicely on my skin.  I have got skin that borders on being slightly olive, so I always go for the medium beige type shades in foundation.  I've never been matched by MAC so I can't tell you what I am in their shade range.

So what do I think of the foundation I've been wanting for so long?  They say never meet your heroes, so I was prepared for possible disappointment.  Luckily there was no need, I think it completely lives up to the hype.  It truly does last all day and I think it makes my skin look great.

The formula is really runny, and it's just in a pour top bottle, so it has taken me a while to get the hang of getting the right amount of product out without wasting any.  I've applied it with a flat top kabuki and just my fingers and it applied well both ways.

The only slight downside I noticed was that it can be a little drying.  For me this is only in small areas as I have combination skin, so if I moisturise a little extra I'm fine, but for those with really dry skins this could be a problem.

Here's a rubbish snap of me wearing the foundation.  Really can't wait to get my new camera and for there to be daylight!

I'd heard some people say that this foundation is too heavy, especially for younger skins (ie under 40 I guess) but it wasn't anywhere near as heavy as I was expecting.  I was worried it would be like wearing a mask!  To me, it's like a normal full coverage foundation that applies easily and lasts exceptionally well.

I'm really glad I bought this and I'm pretty sure I'll re-buy when it runs out.  Although, this Double Wear Maximum has now caught my greedy little shopping eye too... decisions decisions!

Do you crave a long lasting foundation or have you already found what works for you?

  1. Great post!

I used to work for Estee Lauder and this was extremely popular!

It looks great on you, but as you said for soemone with dry skin like me it will fall into those patches and not look right at all.

Have you tried Daywears tinted moisturiser? I wore that the whole time I was working for Lauder and loved the smell and how comforting it is!

Lovin your blog, please check out mine and become a member! Would love to have you on board.

    1. Thanks Claire - no I've never tried the moisturiser. I think this might be the first Estée Lauder product I've bought actually.

I did have a look at your blog when you asked me before, but I was on my phone so couldn't follow or comment. Will go back on now and follow xx

    1. I did take a bit of a risk buying this without even getting any advice on the colour, so I wouldn't really recommend that! I'm sure you could get a sample from a counter xx

  4. i've been using this for the last month and love it, will defo be re-purchasing soon!!! i had recommended it to my mum but now that ive read this ive suggested the tinted moisturiser instead as she has quite dry skin, thanks :)

the maximun coverage that you mentioned is quite thick, i use a tiny amount only on my chin and cheeks where i have some acne scarring, if you go to debenhams they will give you a ten day sample bottle for free and mine has lasted me 3 weeks and still some left :)

    1. Hi Jen - I noticed they have a 'light' version - not sure if that would be an option for drier skins?

I've heard the double wear max is super thick too, but makes an excellent concealer and as you said, you'd just use it on small areas. I think I will definitely try a sample of that one before buying it. Thanks for the advice :)

  5. The double wear maximum is the best foundation i have ever used. I absolutely adore it. I bought it at the beginning of last month and have not looked back. My sister has a lot of scarring from awful teenage acne and she calls it my 'magic makeup' lol. Defo recommended

  9. I used the doublewear foundation once, dont quite remember why i stopped using it, it was couple of years back. It looks nice on you though, it didnt look as good on mine, i think i bought a darker shade, could be the reason why, i am now content with my minerals!

  12. I currently work for Estee Lauder and Double Wear is definitely our most popular foundation, hands-down! We do recommend wearing a moisturizer (our Day Wear is great!) under all foundation, though, which will help with any dryness you may have. The Maximum Coverage may be too heavy for everyday wear, but is perfect for hiding imperfections, unwanted tattoos (yes, customers have purchased it for this reason!), etc. If you're only looking for a subtle concealer, the Ideal Light is awesome! We always offer shade-matching and a complimentary 10-day supply of foundation, so don’t be afraid to stop in and try it! If you purchase it and aren’t 100% pleased for any reason, simply return it!

  13. I was sooo impressed with the Estee Lauder Double Wear! Seriously it's been amazing for me. I've got oily skin, but it just stayed put all day, but it didn't look unnatural or 'caked on'.

    See my review here: http://newwithhashtags.co.uk/estee-lauder-double-wear/

I'll be reviewing the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light soon too!
