Ginerva green tea whitening marvel gel review

When somebody from Janiro got in touch with me to see if I wanted to try some products from Ginerva, I was mainly interested in their BB cream (I'll review that separately).  The 'Whitening marvel gel' seemed like a bit of a gimmicky product making lots of bizarre claims.  I'm always intrigued by Asian products (I have a Japan obsession especially), so I thought the marvel gel would be fun to try out, but I didn't really expect it to be any good.

So, I'll freely admit I was wrong!  This is the best product I have ever used to clear my skin of blackheads.  It's a gross subject I know, but pores get blocked, and it can be a real pain to try to get rid of unsightly little blackheads.  I usually use the sticky nose strips you can get, and I get a little sick satisfaction out of ripping them off and looking to see what I've caught (come on I know you do this too!), but they can never catch everything.  Over the course of a few days of using the marvel gel, I have completely clear pores, and the more open, large pores are a little less prominent too.

To use the product you squeeze a little of the gel on dry hands and rub it into the skin when it's also completely dry - this did confuse me the first time as it's the sort of product I'd expect to use after cleansing.  When you rub the gel in you notice dead skin rolling off in little pieces as it gently exfoliates without and scrubbing particles.  I'm not quite sure how it does this - it's probably the most gentle and nonabrasive exfoliator I've tried.

Now there are lots of other claims of the back of the tube - some a little bizarre such as the 'whitening' - but I can understand this is made for the Asian markets originally.  I was a little worried as I don't want to make my skin paler, but I didn't notice any effect from this.

The product does say it can fade scars - I have a few little acne scars here and there on my face, and I can't really notice that they've been faded, but maybe this will happen over time with using the product.

For me, the main pull of this product is its ability to clear blackheads, so I'm going to continue using it mainly around my t-zone and it's certainly something I'll purchase when it runs out.  It costs £22 and you can get it direct from Janiro and also from Harvey Nichols.

  1. When I read the title I thought you were going to talk about teeth, not blackheads! Haha. This sounds like a great product - blackheads are so annoying (and yes, examining the strip when your done is FASCINATING!) so this product sounds ideal! Xo

    1. Yep the 'whitening' part confused me too. Glad I'm not the only one examining the nose strips!
