You may remember I posted here about the Erapture extremity heated rollers which I found worked really well on my hair, so I was very excited to get the chance to try another styling tool from Enrapture. This time it's the Encode totem styler which can give lovely loose waves all the way to serious ringlets because you can change the heat setting on different parts of the iron by twisting the barrel and switching the codes. I've been playing around with different codes to see the different looks I could create.
Dialling up a code 2-2-3 gave me seriously curl results without being over-done. I really like this look, especially how I managed to get it at the front - I curled away from my face for this, and I managed to get it looking pretty much the same on both sides of my head, which can sometimes be a problem for me to achieve. For this look I used mousse on my hair when blow drying and added hairspray after curling.
Code 3-3-3 gave me extreme ringlets! I wish I'd taken a picture before touching my hair and brushing them out a little. On the left, I've brushed through the ringlets with my fingers and on the right, I tried brushing them through with my tangle teeze brush to see what different effects I would get. On the right it's a much curlier result that the 2-2-2 but still very wearable after messing with the ringlets a little. On the left I really brushed the hair until I had a very soft and wavy look - I'm going to give this a try all over another time - I think I could achieve that old fashioned soft waves result with this technique.
And finally my favourite look. This was code 2-2-3. It's pretty much my dream hair style. It's done without being over-done if that makes sense. To me it's that Kardashian hair style which I love. I just need to grow my hair a little bit more and this will be perfect. I'll be wearing this style a lot from now on, any time that I have a spare twenty minutes extra to spend on my hair. I've seen some people saying they can curl their hair in five minutes with the totem styler, so I think I'll probably get faster as I get more confident, but I do have a lot of hair, so it will probably always take me a bit longer than most people.
These are the products I've been trying out with the totem styler. John Freida style creator spray, Pantenne ultra strong hold mousse and Pantenne Ice shine hairspray. The totem styler does work very well with my hair, and I get better results than with most other things I've tried, but y hair is naturally very straight and quite heavy, so I always need products to keep the style. Also I always curly my hair when it's freshly washed (as I wash my hair every day) and I know a lot of people recommend that you should curl your hair the day after it's been washed, but mine would be a greasy mess by then! I'm going to continue trying out different products to see which ones help the curls hold the best. If anyone has any suggestions for styling products,
please let me know.
The best things about this styler for me are that you can change the heat on the various sections, which makes it really versatile, and the swivel cord and flipper (for catching the end of your hair and releasing easily after curling) which really make the tool super easy to use.
The Enrapture encode totem styler costs £74.99 and you can see all of the stockists here. But if you'd like to win one to try out yourself, read on....
