Lush fun - not so much fun for me :(

I love Lush products and buy them all the time, so it's unusual for me to find one disappointing.  I was very excited to buy Lush's new playdough style bath product - fun - but I hadn't got around to using it yet as I was trying to use up some other bath products first.  Sadly my bar of fun got fed up of waiting for me to use it and died a rather miserable and gooey death.

UPDATE: thanks to everyone who took an interest in this post and to all of you who suggested I should contact Lush.  They emailed me back quickly and confirmed I must have got a product from a bad batch as this should not happen to Fun.  They also happily offered to send me a replacement product, so it's all good :)

It's like all the fun ran out and just left a deflated and sad pink slime behind!

Excuse the Primark bag in the background - I didn't want to get pink slime all over my usual blogging surfaces.

The gooey fun managed to unravel the edges of the packaging and oozed out the sides

My bar of fun was made on 1 October - I bought it on 13 October and by 22 November (or perhaps before?) it looked like this.  I'm not sure when my bar of fun started to go all funny and oozy, but I noticed it this week as I spotted a pink stain on my carpet and investigated until I realised it was this.  The label says it should be used by 1 December next year, but it also says 'best used fresh' so a rather confusing message.

I had to open it up and show you the full goriness!

So I'm not really sure what to make of this.  Is it my fault for not using it right away, or did I perhaps get one from a bad batch?  I am disappointed because I was looking forward to using it, and it's been a waste of £5.

In any case, I thought I'd do this post to let you know what can happen if you leave your fun unattended and unloved for too long.  I can imagine some people might have bought one of these and put it away for Christmas, so if you have, please go and check on it or you might find someone unwrapping a big slimey mess, or worse it might be oozing all over your other Christmas shopping.

Has anyone else had this experience with Lush Fun?

Keep up to date with all things flutter and sparkle in any of the following ways -

  3. I think they really shouldn't have had ones out for sale which had been made almost two weeks before, as that's obviously made the difference in how long it's lasted for you. You should have been able to buy ones that had been made a couple or few days before, not 13 days, so I would get in touch with Lush to try and get your money back! xo

  5. I would of taken it back seem as the date said it was fine till next year. I have been really interested in this new play-doh like product but now im not quite so sure, as i like to use my lush products as a treat so will only use them every now and then...unless it's one of their face masks. I also would be really peed off if it oozed all over the place, although from the pictures it does kinda look like pink icing so slightly yummy but still haha x

    1. I didn't really think about taking it back - it made such a mess my top priority was getting it into the bin without getting more goo everywhere!

  9. Take it back hun, I work at Lush and it has happened with a few people, not many at all but it is not unheard of. They will 100% exchange it xx

  10. Could something have leaked on it and got it wet? Because that's what mine looked like when I accidentally got it wet whilst it was in the packaging. x

    1. No, it was in my dressing room and there's no water in there. It was just sitting on a shelf and it had started running down the wall and on the carpet!

  15. Oh no! :(
Its weird though, I think you must have got one from a bad batch.

I only use a little bit of my Fun bar when I feel like it, so I have over half left and I bought it around a month ago. Its completely fine.. Not drying out and definitely not melting into goo lol.

Link them to this post, maybe they'll offer a replacement. :)

  16. OMG! As soon as I saw this I had to run to my pack of Lush and look at the fun I had left just in case... All of them were fine but my pink one is a bit more squidgy than the rest but I keep them in a very cold cupboard. Maybe its an ingredient in the pink one that makes it less able to hold up than the rest xx
