Although my daily meals still consist of cheese and festive shaped chocolates, with being back at work tomorrow I have to admit that Christmas is coming to an end. I get so sad when Christmas is over, probably because there's such a big build up, but I have lots of lovely new makeup toys and other fun things to play with to help me get over it. Here's what I got for Christmas this year...
I love candles, and don't my family know it. I was treated so some lovely votives from Yankee Candles in these cute little house presentation boxes and some beautiful tall glass votive holders to burn them in - as you can see I've already given those a try. Also from Yankee, I got my favourite of their festive scents this year - Snowflake cookie. I also got two more Bath & Bodyworks candles to add to my growing collection - these are in the scents Winter candy apple and Mint Chocolate. I'm so obsessed with their stuff, possibly because it's so flippin' hard to get hold of for us Brits. I might do a 'collection' post of what I have from there if anyone is interested.
Onto more sweet smelling things - these are some of the bath and skincare giftsets I was given. I love the Cute or What fox wash bag from Boots and was actually planning to look out for him in the sales, but my clever brother pre-empted me (with a little help from Mum I think). I also got a Benefit gift set I asked for - this is called Love me B.right and it contains facial skincare including the It's potent eye cream and Triple performing facial emulsion. I had samples of both of these last time I bought something in a Benefit boutique and my skin seemed to like them, so this kit seemed a great way to snag the full sizes. Peeking out in the background here is the Philosophy holiday handbook which contains three hand creams in gorgeous, very Philosophy fragrances - gingerbread cookie, honey buns and cranberry medley. And I also got all of the Lush bath bombs I asked for - I knew what this present was before I unwrapped it because I could smell the bath bombs!
I tried not to ask for too many nail bits for Christmas because I don't really have room for what I already have, but there were some polishes from the new Winter / Christmas collections which seemed to pretty to pass up. From Essie I got Set in stones, Warm and toasty turtle neck, Hors D'oeuvres and Toggle to the top. I also got OPI's I snow you love me, a Christmassy red from No7, an Etude House glitter-fest and China Glaze's your presents required.
For a few reasons I'm not as much of a Nails Inc fan as I used to be, but I can't resist anything rose gold so I had to have the Bling it on rose gold set. I don't think this is sold in the UK so I asked my Mum to pick it up for me when I she was in the US. I think it's a shame that a British brand like Nails Inc is now making products for other markets that they're not making available here, and also selling their products at much lower prices abroad than we pay at home!
And I also got a very exciting nail-related surprise present from one of my besties - a UV lamp (a pink one!) and gel equipment! I've wanted to try gels at home for ages as an alternative to shellac / gellish - I'm not intending to try to recreate a whole gel manicure, I just want to try using the gel tops and bases with regular polishes to make a manicure last longer. I've seen youtube videos about this so I know it's possible!
Now onto the serious stuff - palettes. I know Christmas is not all about the presents of course, but I literally couldn't wait to get my hands on some of these! I got the Hourglass ambient lighting palette, Clarins the Essentials eye palette, Nars Guy Bourdin Promiscuious lip pencil set, Kardashian Kim's Kardazzle palette, Urban Decay Naked 3 palette and an Hourglass primer duo. I don't know where to begin experimenting and swatching these! My family and friends did good, especially my brother who tried every Sephora he came across in New York until he found me the sold out Ambient Lighting palette!
I was also lucky enough to get some more makeup on top of the palettes, most of which was a surprise from my lovely friends. I got a YSL faux cils mascara, which I'm expecting to be very good as it's come recommended by my mascara mad bestie Zara. My other bestie Heather has a gorgeous MAC 15 pan palette filled with beautiful neutral colours and she keeps encouraging me to get one, but I already have so many palettes, and I know if I had the big palette I'd want to fill it and it would cost a lot of money, so I've been restrained so far. Heather clearly had other ideas and went ahead and bought me a quad palette to fill! Four is a nice sensible amount, so I'm really happy she did, and she got me a stunner of a shade to start me off - satin taupe.
I also got two new Nars blushes in Mata Hari and Angelika, MAC plumful lipstick, and some amazing Michael Kors makeup from Rob, the only male I know who can pick out beauty products - he's gay of course. He got me a stunning Michael Kors bronzer compact in the shade glow - the packing alone is to die for, and a lipgloss in a rich burgandy shade called icon.
I have a Kindle so I don't ask for actual books for Christmas anymore, but I make an exception for the odd cookbook as I like to have them to hand in my kitchen for inspiration. This year I fancied the new Jamie Oliver book, and a book packed with nothing but recipes for Nutella - that'll come in handy during the obligatory January health kick... hmmm. I also asked for these two great Happy Jackson notebooks - I also bought them for friends too as I think they're so lovely and fun.
I was delighted to unwrap two of my favourite perfumes (they'll be popping up in my 2013 favourites very soon!) - Victoria's Secret Angel and Marc Jacobs Daisy. And of course no stocking is complete without chocolate - as well as my chocolate oranges I also got a Lindt teddy bear and some amazing truffles in the cutest little boxes from Charbonnel et Walker.
And finally a few more stocking fillers - Cath Kidston mug, Foxy phone cover, red jelly makeup pouch, pretty little hand cream and lip balm, a Pinch mini emergency kit (from my Mum of course!), some Dorothy Perkins jewellery and some fun socks - Selfie!
One thing I've not photographed (as it was too big for my set-up!) is my main present from my boyfriend. He got me a Kenwood Patissier mixier in pink so that I can make cakes much more quickly and easily and with less mess! I've been saying for ages that I'm going to treat myself to a Kitchen Aid mixer when we get our new Kitchen, but this one was so much cheaper and just as beautiful, so he offered to get it for me now. I'm very excited to get baking with it.
I hope you got everything you wanted for Christmas, and if not I hope you found it in the sales instead!
