Christmas beauty: Illamasqua's Facet collection - Multi Facet palette in Semblance - review and swatches

I'm beyond excited for all of the Christmas collections which are either landing or being announced right now.  My wish list is unspeakably long, which is a sign that standards are pretty high this year!  I've been lucky enough to get a pre-Christmas treat from Illamasqua's Facets collection for 2014 - the stunning Multi Facet palette in Semblance.

Illamasqua's Facets collection is on the whole, filled with neutral, wearable, flattering shades with a slight edge.  Some might be disappointed not to see some of the bold, acid bright colours Illamasqua is often known for, but I think this collection is going to be massively popular because it will appeal to so many, and will practically suit everyone.  I think that's the general aim as the tag line for this colleciton is - Facets collection reflects many sides of the same alluring beauty.  Like a unique jewel you are multifacted.

The standout pieces from the collection are the two Multi Facet palettes.  Both are a mix of beautiful complimenting, neutral-ish shades, one for paler skins and one for darker.  I have the darker palette which is called Semblance.

Illamasqua could have gone ahead and made this just an eye shadow palette and I'd have loved it I'm sure, but it's actually a combination palette which makes it brilliant for travel or as a handbag staple.  Both colourways include a highlight, blush, cream contour, brow colour and four eye shades each with its own suggested purpose, plus a double ended brush.

Mirage gleam cream, Hussy blush, Hollow cream pigment.

Thunder eye brow cake and eye shadows in slink, dizzy, tango and obsidian.

Here I'm wearing all of the products from the palette as directed on the insert, and I smudged on a little bit of Illamasqua's Shard lipstick for a muted effect.  These shades work perfectly with my skintone and hair, and I love the mixture of colours.  The contour shade (hollow) seemed a little dark at first, but looking at it now I think I could have gone in with a little more as it gives a subtle and buildable effect.  I'd probably never have picked up a shade like Tango as I wouldn't have dreamt it could work on me - just goes to show I really should take more makeup risks!  Thunder is a great eye brow shade for brunettes, and Hussy is one of my all time favourite blushes, so I know I'm going to get a whole lot of use from this palette.  It's really good value for all of the products you're getting, and they're all of the usual high quality I expect from Illamasqua.  If you're newer to the brand, I think this palette would be a brilliant introduction.

If you have a paler colouring, this is the Aura palette which Might be for you.  It contains gleam cream in aurora, tremble blush, eye brow cake in thunder, cream pigment in hollow, and the eye shades vision, feint, servant and machine.

The full Limited edition Illamasqua Facets collection is available now at illamasqua.com - it includes two lip colours which compliment the multi facet palettes, a brush collection and Illamasqua's first makeup bag!

Will the Facets collection be making your Christmas wish list?

  3. Wow, that is seriously a beautiful palette. I don't usually pay much attention to Illamasqua (no real reason; there are just so many brands that got my attention first), but this one seems like a must-have.

By the way, I'm having a MeMeBox giveaway, and the prize is phenomenal. It ends later tonight, so I hope that you'll participate if you haven't yet! ChicAndAlluring.com
