There's nothing more satisfying to me than photographing beautiful makeup in pretty packaging. My photography skills are kind of still evolving, but when it comes to shooting products as good looking as this, even I can't mess it up! The products I'm talking about today are some new and new-ish launches from the Gods of amazingly presented makeup - Too Faced.
Don't they all just look so pretty? Beautiful on your dressing table, and perfect for a cheeky instagram :)
Contouring has been so over-done that it's almost become a bit of a makeup joke. I think it's because some celebrities take contouring to the absolute extreme where their faces just look odd, and when you see someone in real life who's tried to recreate it just looking like they have a stripey muddy-orange face!
Contouring needs to be done with some degree of skill, and the right shade of product, and this kit gets that so right. With two highlight shades and two contour shades to choose from, none of which are too dark, orange or glittery, you can achieve a much more natural looking effect. The kit also comes with some illustrated instructions, so if you're new to contouring, you can follow step by step until you get the hang of it.
The shades have a very blendable texture, which is of course and essential for contour, and the cute little brush which comes with the kit is a really good size and shape to get underneath those cheekbones.
This is a really long-lasting, great quality blush, but I will confess that I absolutely bought this because of the cute heart-shaped compact and the bunny rabbit embossing! The compact actually reminds me of Polly Pocket - anyone else with me on that one? On a practical level, it's a really good blush for carrying around in your makeup bag as the packaging is sturdy and there's a proper mirror in the lid.
The Love Flush Blush range has six shades of pinks and peaches, and I went for the colour Love Hangover. I really liked all of the shades when I swatched them in person, but decided to go for this rose pink shade which is more wearable for every day. I really liked Baby Love and Justify My Love, so I'll probably go for one of those some time soon as I've been using this one a lot already.
I really like the original Too Faced melted lipsticks, but it's taken me a little while to get into the Melted Metal versions, as I think I thought the finish might be a bit too foil-like for me. Having tried one out now, I can confirm that's not the case and they're much more a sheeny and reflective nod to metallics, so very wearable. I have the shade Melted Metallic Macaron and it's a lovely bright pink with a subtle sheen to it - I want to say it's like a fine glitter really up close, but don't want to give you the wrong idea - it has a really smooth texture and finish on the lips. It's the kind of thing that's really difficult to capture on camera, so I'd really recommend you have a swatch of these in store.
If you're thinking about giving the Melted Lipsticks a go, there's a great giftset out for Christmas which contains four minis including two of the original finishes and two of the metallics, all in pretty pink shades - Melted French Kisses.
Too Faced Love palette - £34
I think I've saved the best until last with this stunner of an eyeshadow palette. In some ways when you open the lid, everything looks a bit retro, and reminds me of the makeup I used to covet as a kid from the Argos catalogue! My tastes and demands in quality have moved on a lot since then, but I'm still a sucked for pretty heart shaped things and soft, sparkly shades.
We all know I'm a neutral eye shade lover, but I do like to pop a bit of colour now and again, and I love how this palette seamlessly mixes some really soft, pretty shades of cream and brown, with an unexpected olive, pink and orangey-bronze. There's a mixture of matte, pearly and shimmery shades, and every single colour applies well with excellent pigmentation. You also get a black eyeliner with this palette, which is a nice touch and makes a change from having an extra brush.
There's so much you can do with this palette, and as always with Too Faced, the palette also comes with some pull out cards to give you some ideas for how to wear all of the colours.
All of these products are available from TooFaced.com with shipping to the UK, and you'll also find some of the ranges at Debenhams and Beauty Bay.
