New Year's Eve hair / how I curl my hair with ghds

With Christmas over and New Year now becoming the focus, I'm sure lots of us are already thinking about how we're going to celebrate and what kind of party look we want to go for.  I'm not great at up-dos at all, but really enjoy putting curls and waves in my hair to give me a look that says I made an effort!  ghd kindly sent me their platinum copper luxe premium gift set and challenged me to create a festive look with added sparkle, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to share my tips on how I use ghds to curl my hair.

Christmas shopping at London Designer Outlet

I love so many things about Christmas, but one particular highlight has to be that never ending excuse for festive shopping trips!  I recently did some Christmas shopping at London Designer Outlet in West London, and had a great time not only checking out the shops but also trying one of the lovely restaurants and even having a little spin on their ice rink!

Personalised Christmas gifts from ijustloveit.co.uk

Still struggling to fill those final gaps on your Christmas shopping list?  Don't worry, me too!  Especially when it comes to those annoying people that seem to have everything and say they don't 'need' anything for Christmas - it's just so tough to come up with new ideas every year.  Going for a personalised gift is sort of my secret weapon - it puts a new slant and angle on a gift to make it special with a name or a little in joke phrase and turns an ordinary gift into something really special.  I've found some great personalised items at I Just Love It again this year, and there's still time to order this weekend for Christmas delivery, so I hope these might inspire you with those tricky final gift selections.

YSL Christmas party beauty at Debenhams #foundit

Not that I ever need an excuse to get glammed up with beautiful makeup, but if I did, then a Christmas party would be top of the ideal occasions list.  Once the calendar flips to December my thoughts instantly turn to glitter, gold, sequins, red and all things similarly festive to turn up that special Christmas feel.  Debenhams and YSL have kindly provided me with a perfect selection of products to get me festive party ready, so read on to see how I got on with them...

Christmas gift guides 2016 - stocking fillers

Today's gift guide is stocking fillers, so mostly things that are under £15, with lots under £10 too.  I like to give people lots of unwrap - it always seems more fun than one large gift, and I love making up stockings, gift bags, gift baskets, the lot.  I just love Christmas really :)

Christmas gift guides 2016 - festive candles

I decided to put together a gift guide just for candles this year as they're on of my favourite gifts to give as well as receive!  I also thought it would be good to have a look beyond the most common candle brands that you might see in a lot of a gift guides, I mean, Jo Malone and Diptyque are gorgeous, and I wouldn't pass up finding one in my stocking, but let's face it, they're out of budget for most of the people we'd generally buy for at Christmas, right?  Saying that, I was actually considering treating myself to the Diptyque festive mini candles this year, but when I looked at them in store I wasn't all that blown away by the scents!  I was equally a little disappointed with the Neom Christmas candles - I usually go for one of their festive candles, but the choices this year seem exactly the same as last year, so nothing new or exciting.  Jo Malone have the Orange Bitters scent this Christmas, which sounds right up my street, so I'm planning to give it a try when I'm near a store, but at £120 for the candle, I won't be indulging!  Thankfully my candle gift guide has plenty of options at much more affordable price points :)

Christmas gift guides 2016 - Nail polish gift sets

I'm  real nail polish lover, so it seemed fitting for one of my gift guides to be all about nail polish!  I'm rounding up lots of sets that I like this year, but there are some notable brands missing - Essie and OPI for example just didn't have anything I found interesting this year - I guess seeing as I've bought so many of their holiday collections in the past, it's all getting a bit samey?  China Glaze have some nice looking sets out, but generally they all contained a few colours I didn't love alongside some really good ones, so I talked myself out of the purchase!  Anyway, here's what did make the cut!

The Beauty Breakdown - November

That time has come again for a good old catch up time, a cup of tea and a ginger biscuit or two - dunking optional.  Here's what I've been buying, trying, loving and loathing lately in the world of beauty.

New launches from Urban Decay - Naked Ultimate Basics palette, All Nighter foundation and Razor Sharp eyeliners

Ooooh all the exciting shiny new things from Urban Decay!  I have three great new launches to talk to you about, but those of you who've read my blog for a while will know it's the beautiful new Naked palette that I'm most excited about!  As much as I love colour and am wowed by all of the gorgeous rainbow palettes out there, nudes and neutrals are like my bread and butter, and the Urban Decay Naked range is totally in my comfort zone.

The new Arlésienne fragrance collection from L'Occitane

The new Arlésienne collection from L'Occitane is a beautiful floral fragrance range combining scents of rose, violet and saffron.  I really love the styling of this one - the beautiful floral design depicts the key notes in the fragrance, and also those simple clean lines along with the with the silver caps and the soft pink make this one super elegant looking gifting range.

The cutest Pusheen Christmas gifts from Boots and Marks & Spencer

I feel I need to start with a little disclaimer about the number of times I'm likely to say "cute" in this blog post, because this collection of Pusheen Christmas goodies are just so adorable!  I've really fallen in love with Pusheen this year from the funny little twitter gifs to the facebook stickers and the Primark pyjamas, and now all of a sudden this Christmas we can get Pusheen on pretty much everything.  The shelves at Marks and Spencer and Boots are so much cuter this year with the addition of this friendly little cat, and I'm freaking out in the best possible way - give me all of the Pusheen!

New from Armani Beauty - lip magnet matte liquid lipsticks - review and swatches

Well would you look at these little beauties from Armani beauty - aren't they the gorgeous?  They're a new line of liquid lipsticks called Lip Magnets.  The name lip magnet of course implies that the product is going to be attracted to your lips and won't let go - a good choice of moniker because that's the exact premise of this new  lipstick collection.  Lip Magnets are a liquid matte formula that binds with the lip to give a long-lasting finish that won't budge and smudge.  I'm told that the Lip Magnets were inspired by the ultra-thin film of the Maestro Fusion Makeup (and using the same technology which helps the foundation to stay put)  and the colour intensity of Lip Maestro Velvet Lip Colours.

Armani Lip Magnets come in a range of 18 different shades from nude to pink to deep wine shades and I have six of the colours to try out.  These liquid lipsticks are designed to last eight hours and have a super light-weight texture on the lips but intense pigmentation - exactly what us lipstick lovers have been waiting for!

How to have a spooktacular Halloween at home! (and win a collection of horror dvds!)

So what do you do for Halloween?  I always feel like I want to do something fun, but when it comes down to it, I’m too old for trick or treating, not cool enough for Halloween raves and what not, and definitely too sensible and protective of my carpets to be hosting a Halloween house party!  I’ve already been on a fabulous Halloween scare night earlier this month (check out this post for details) so for actual Halloween, the perfect thing to do seems to be to stay in with some dead good horror films (heh heh) and some creepy snacks!

The second Tili box from QVC

After trying out my first Tili box a couple of months ago (see it here) I couldn't wait to get my hands on the goodies in the next one!  The second edition of QVC's 'Try it, Love it' box is possibly even better than the first, or maybe I just couldn't wait to try that Tarte mascara...

Kat Von D comes to the UK – finally! (and a giveaway!)

Being an avid fan of just about every makeup brand that we can’t easily access without taking a trip to a US Sephora (ain’t it always the way?), I’ve known about Kat Von D Beauty for a while and have already had the pleasure of trying a fair few bits from her vast makeup range.  This year has been a pretty good one for us UK beauty lovers with some awesome US brands finally landing on our shores, and now rumours of a Sephora in Westfield Stratford too – I can hardly cope!

Phobophobia - The Ventriloquist Nightmare at The London Tombs - the ultimate scare for Halloween!

On Tuesday night I went along to a preview of The London Tombs Halloween Phobophobia experience.  It’s a Halloween horror attraction for adults only, and The London Tombs has been rated the UK’s scariest attraction for eight years in a row, so I didn’t know whether to be excited or terrified for what was to come!  The London Tombs create a new Halloween horror maze every year, and each time there is a new theme.  This year it’s The Ventriloquist Nightmare – so lots of super creepy puppets and dolls!

By Invitation - the new fragrance by Michael Bublé

I adore Michael Bublé, I mean who doesn't?  He has such a beautiful voice and just comes across as such a charming, lovely guy.  I've been fond of his albums for years, and always whack on a Bublé Christmas album to get me in the festive mood, but I'd never really considered he'd bring out a fragrance....

My favourite face scrubs and masks for dehydrated skin

I think it's something about the autumn nights drawing in that have me gravitating towards hot baths and pamper sessions, and I find myself making a little more time to concentrate on taking care of my skin.  Autumn and winter weather, central heating and the like all do my skin no favours, so putting in a little prep work with some great scrubs and masks is well worth it in my opinion.  These are my current go-to favourites.

L'Occitane advent calendar 2016 - out now!

I know it’s only just October, but I can’t resist posting about the amazing L’Occitane advent calendar which has just arrived.  Plus, it’s gone on sale right now and always sells out, so no point waiting until December to show it off!

Marks and Spencer Formula Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream review

We're used to seeing varying degrees of unlikely claims being made in beauty and skincare product advertising on the regular, so I wasn't necessarily expecting the contents of this little pot to really live up to its promise - skin looks like you've had 8 hours of sleep, even when you haven't.  But, seeing as I'd actually never tried any Marks and Spencer own brand skincare before, I thought I'd give their Ultimate Sleep Cream a try all the same, as at the very least is seemed like a rich and nourishing night cream, and at best, maybe it would help me avoid those super awkward "are you okay... you look really tired?" rude concerned comments at work!

Lush Halloween collection 2016 - bath bomb haul!

Nothing signals the arrival of autumn quite like the unveiling of Lush's Halloween collection.  The colder, darker days and evenings lend themselves so well to hot, steamy, lingering baths, so I'm always giddy with excitement to stock up on the latest bath time treats once the new collections arrive.  Plus, it's a sign there's not long to wait for the Christmas range... woooo!

The best beauty advent calendars for 2016

I remember back in 2012 when I first did what was to become an annual round up of advent calendars, that there were only a handful on the market.  The idea was pretty novel and super popular, with most calendars becoming instant sell-outs.  Fast forward to 2016 and I've found more than thirty beauty related advent calendars on offer (plus a few fragrance / candle offerings) - and there may be even more still to be released!  It's no surprise that lots of companies have jumped on to what appears to be a very successful bandwagon, and I'm not complaining, other than perhaps about that fact that I can't afford all of the ones I'd like to be tearing into during December!  As there are so many advent calendars around this year, instead of aiming to list every single one, I'm rounding up the ones with the best goodies behind the doors.

Viktor & Rolf Bonbon Couture perfume review

Obviously you should choose a new perfume based on the scent being made up of notes that you like and the overall fragrance being in keeping with your style, but sometimes I’m sure we can all be guilty of falling in love with a beautiful bottle first and foremost!  That’s sure to happen with Viktor and Rolf’s new Bonbon Couture perfume, because the bottle is an absolute stunner – it’s like a little work of art for your dressing table!

The Body Shop down to earth eye palettes - review and swatches

Well haven't The Body Shop upped their eyeshadow palette game with these beauties?  Would you have guessed the brand correctly if it weren't for the title?  I'm not sure that I would - there's something of a Bobbi Brown air to the styling of these palettes and the shade choices, and as the shadows pop out, they also remind me of a Bare Minerals palette which had a similar function.  Full marks Body Shop, these palettes have it all going on!

Melvita Nectar De Roses collection for dehydrated skin

As a blogger, I'm never short of new skincare to try out, but with my skin playing up for most of the summer, I've really had to hold off on using new products whilst I tried to get my skin back to a 'normal' state.  The list of things I've been itching to try has really been building and so much as I never thought I'd say this, I'm pleased to have my combination, dehydrated skin back - as at least I know where I stand and how to deal with it!  The Melvita Nectar De Roses collection was one of the first sets of products I tried on my skin once I was back to testing products as usual, and I chose these because they're specifically for dehydrated skin.

The Beauty Breakdown - September

Hello!  I'm back after a slightly unplanned blog hiatus and have lots of products I want to talk about.  If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you'll probably know I've been away in New York, and before that, I was busy stressing about packing and planning for New York, because that's just how I roll!  Anyway back to normal now hopefully, and straight into a massive beauty product ramble - my favourite!

Meet Tili, the beauty box with a difference from QVC

If you've not heard about it already, you really need to see what's going on with QVC's latest beauty offering - it's called Tili, and it's a beauty box like no other.  Tili stands for 'try it, love it' and unlike a lot of other beauty boxes, you don't need to subscribe, and you see exactly what you'll be getting before you part with your money!

New from Urban Decay - UD XX Vice Ltd Reloaded palette - celebrating 20 years of Urban Decay

It's easy to become quite complacent about new makeup launches, what with there being so many brands and similar products on the market, but now and again, something really amazing comes along and sees me excited tearing through packaging to get to the good stuff!  This stunning new limited edition palette from Urban Decay is just the sort of product that reminds me why I love makeup - the packaging is extra special, and the colours inside have me so inspired to get experimenting!

The end of July beauty breakdown

The end of the month has been and gone, so it's time for a good old beauty round up.  It's been a while since I did one of these full on beauty chat posts, so I have loads to catch you up on from the things I've been trying over June and July.

Gorgeous blooms from Blossoming Gifts and 33% off code!

Oh I just hate it when people send me flowers as a surprise.... said no one ever.  Unless you have some kind of allergy or serious hayfever, flowers are a universally wonderful gift aren't they?  They're always guaranteed to put a smile on my face, that's for sure - not least of all because I had these lovely ones delivered to my work and didn't bother to correct anyone who suggested they were from a secret admirer!

Putting matte liquid lipsticks to the test - NYX, Anastasia Beverly Hills, ColourPop and Sleek

I'll admit I'm somewhat late to the matte liquid lipstick game - I've spent a good long while trying to resist the trend, as I much prefer comfortable balmy feel on my lips, but I can't deny that the whole nineties inspired, Kylie Jenner famed lip is a beautiful thing.  I've jumped in with trepidation, going for slightly safer colours, and brand choices that avoided me the midnight scrum for a Kylie lip kit.  For me that was the right approach, because I'm now addicted to wearing these shades in rotation, and can't wait to broaden my colour spectrum further, especially with Colourpop's news of delivery to the UK starting today!

My summer holiday beauty favourites

Well this makes a change for me, doing a holiday favourites.  I usually go on my main holiday in September, and by the time I get back it's all Christmas, Christmas, Christmas, and by that time it doesn't seem worth talking about summer holiday products!  This year I've just recently been to Dubai staying in a beach resort, so I thought I'd maximise on the chance to chat about summer products, especially as there's not so much need for them with our crabby old UK weather :(

New from it cosmetics at QVC - bye bye redness and the beautiful you face disc

Following on from the hotly anticipated launch of it cosmetics in the UK earlier this year, QVC have now added even more products to the line up so that we can get our hands on them over here.  If like me you follow US beauty youtubers and blogs, you'll probably have seen these products before - I'd certainly noticed some hype around them so was really excited to hear that they've joined the QVC range and couldn't wait to try them out for myself.  Spoiler alert... they didn't disappoint!

The Glamour Summer Edit box from Latest In Beauty

Well would you look at that - a subscription box I can really get excited about!  I stopped my beauty box subscriptions long ago as I just wasn't using all of the products and received too many things that I didn't like or would never use.  It's impossible for these companies to keep everyone happy, or to personalise the boxes to the extent we might like!  I much prefer the trend we're seeing in one-off boxes (like the lovely collab British Beauty Blogger did recentlywhere you get to see the contents of the box before you part with your cash.

Nails Inc Coconut Bright Gel Effect polishes in summer shades

Nails Inc have enhanced their gel effect formula with coconut water to hydrate and condition nails for their new Coconut Brights Gel Effect range.  This appeals to me so much at the moment as I had a bad DIY shellac experience and my nails are so weak right now!  They're also of course super appealing due to being such bright and fun summer shades - so much so that I couldn't resist wearing them all at once for a skittles mani!

L'Occitane violette & rose de mai fragrance

Hey, long time no blog!  To explain my absence, I've been busy sunning myself in gorgeous Dubai, but more about that another time.  Today is all about a beautiful new fragrance launch from L'Occitane which is so perfect for this time of year.  Let me introduce you to Violette & Rose De Mai...

My spring beauty wish list

Believe it or not I went through a bit of a phase during winter where I didn't buy any makeup.  I hadn't put myself on a spending ban or anything like that, there just wasn't anything that was ringing my want or need radar.  Come spring however, my makeup spidey-senses awoke with a a vengeance, and apparently I need all of the makeup all over again!  Some of the bits entered my wish list when they were only available in the US, so I spent a while filling a Sephora basket, checking the postage and customs charges, laughing and un-filling it again sharpish!  Knowing that I was not far away from my Dubai holiday (it's finally here now and I go on Saturday!!!) I thought it was probably sensible to see what the Sephora there stocks and how the prices weigh up compared to a US to UK online order.

The Precious Petals Beauty Box by British Beauty Blogger and L'Occitane, Melvita and Erborian

The Precious Petals box by British Beauty Blogger is back in stock, but I doubt it'll last long, so even though I don't have my box in my greedy little mitts yet, I wanted to share all the details with you now so that you can snap one up before they're all gone!

It Cosmetics at QVC - a full review on every product!

Have you ever heard of It Cosmetics?  It's a US brand, and I've previously seen their products raved about by American Youtubers and Bloggers all the time - so much so that I ordered the Bye Bye Under Eye concealer from The States a few months back because I needed it in my life!  The good news is that It Cosmetics has landed in the the UK, and some of their range is now being stocked at QVC.  There are many things I love about QVC, but the fact that they make brands like It Cosmetics and Tarte accessible to us over here is certainly top of that list!

I was originally going to do a first impressions post on all of the products in the range around the launch date, but when I watched one of the QVC shows on the first weekend and saw everything had sold out already and was on waitlist or an extended delivery, I realised that it might be better to road-test the products fully, and tell you about them once they've mostly come back into stock.  There are some real hero products here that have become staples in my makeup routine already, so let me walk you through everything.

Urban Decay Summer 2016 collection review and swatches

Oh my goodness I've had such a busy week... this post was supposed to go up on Monday and I've literally been writing it in my head every day as I sit and do my makeup before work.  I have my holiday to Dubai coming up in less than two weeks now (whooop!) so lots of prep for that has been going on, plus being on the Slimming World plan takes a lot of planning and time cooking things from scratch, and I've had a boot fair and big charity makeup sale to do, plus this week I've been stressing about a slightly unsuccessful trip to get my hair done and I'm going back later today for some tweaking.  So yeah, lots going on for me and I am prone to being a little bit of a stress ball sometimes, so not being able to write this post this week has been freaking me out!  Anyway, finally here we are, let's look at some of Urban Decay's lush summer collection for 2016.

The greasy hair saviour - L'Oreal extraordinary clay

I've been struggling with greasy roots for years, so much so that I'd practically given up trying out new shampoos and treatments, and had just resigned myself to being an every day washer.  When I first heard about the Elvive Extraordinary Clay range I wasn't even interested, because these things never seem to work for me, but after I saw a few positive mentions popping up on social media, and then a special offer in Boots, I gave in and decided to try it out.

Crown Brush 10 colour concealer palette and face brush review

So this is going to be a review of the Crown Brush 10 colour concealer palette (and brushes), but forgive me if at any point I call it a 'contour palette' by mistake, as that's all I see when I look at this array of light to dark creamy shades!

The Body Shop British Rose collection

The Body Shop British Rose collection is a perfect range for spring with packaging covered in beautiful blooms and softly rose scented products.  The collection is huge covering bath and body, fragrance, makeup and nails, so there's something for everyone, and makes it easier for us all to justify picking up something up from the range!

Finally, a hands-free hairdryer, and it's a game changer!

I've never been one of those people that's just naturally good at doing their hair.  I can't french-plait, I can't fish-tail, and I certainly haven't mastered the art of the round brush bouncy blow dry, always blaming it on the fact that I just don't have enough hands for the job.  It was a good few years ago that I remember first moaning about needing a hands-free hairdryer for this exact issue, and now it's actually a reality!
