Kat Von D comes to the UK – finally! (and a giveaway!)

Being an avid fan of just about every makeup brand that we can’t easily access without taking a trip to a US Sephora (ain’t it always the way?), I’ve known about Kat Von D Beauty for a while and have already had the pleasure of trying a fair few bits from her vast makeup range.  This year has been a pretty good one for us UK beauty lovers with some awesome US brands finally landing on our shores, and now rumours of a Sephora in Westfield Stratford too – I can hardly cope!

Kat Von D is known for her bold and beautiful, super creative makeup looks (and tattoos of course), and her ranges are always filled with the most amazing colours and also edgy tones that you might just not find anywhere else.  Her ‘Lock-it’ range was one of the original things to catch my eye too, alongside the Tattoo eyeliners, as I’ve always been someone who’s struggled to keep my makeup on my face all day long.  Now this surprises me, but I think we’ve actually been blessed with the full Kat Von D range at Debenhams – and I say I’m surprised because some brands seem to test the water with just a selection of their products first when coming to a new market.  All the cult products are there, including those infamous everlasting liquid lipsticks, the shade and light contour palette, and my holy grail tattoo eyeliner – yaaasssss!

I have a great little selection of what’s on offer to share with you.  Some of these things were sent to me in conjunction with the launch, and others are bits I’ve collected on various Sephora trips in the US.  As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been using the Kat Von D Tattoo liner in trooper (black) for a good few years now if not more, and have probably re-purchased it at least ten times, no exaggeration!  It’s genuinely the best liquid liner for staying power if you have oily lids like mine and would find your liner up on your brow-bone if you used a lesser product!  If you struggle with this and you’ve not tried the Tattoo liner, get yourself down to Debenhams asap – I promise you won’t regret it. The only slight drawback is that the liner doesn't last forever and will dry out, so you need to take care of it and put the lid straight back on as soon as you're done.

The Kat Von D Lock-It liquid foundation is also something that I picked up myself a while back, and although unfortunately I messed up my shade choice a little - I have Light 46 which is a bit too light on me - I really like the formula.  It’s a really high coverage foundation and it does have great staying power, but I've not properly tried it alone as I've always had to mix in a darker shade of another foundation due to picking the wrong colour.  I'm also interested in trying the primer and fixing powder from the Lock It range to see how they fare.

I have a little sample of the Kat Von D Lock-It concealer to try too - it's in the shade Light Neutral 11 which is quite pale, but perfect for brightening my under-eye area.  I've only tried this once so far, but it gives really good coverage on dark circles and stays put really well.

It’s about time we talked about those Everlasting liquid lipsticks, as if you asked most people if they knew anything about Kat Von D makeup, this is the product they’d probably mention – in particular Kat’s most popular shade – Lolita. Since the whole nineties nude / brown lip revival, Lolita has become a bit of a make-up bag must have, and I’m ashamed to admit that I shied away from trying it, instead going for more mainstream sort of shades, because I just didn’t think I could pull off that deep brown colour.  Like most things in makeup, I just needed to build up to it gradually, and having been wearing nude lips constantly this past year I’ve been building confidence for deeper and darker nudes, and am finally Lolita ready!  Now I’ve tried it I totally get it, even though my boyfriend might disagree!  Lolita is also an excellent shade to mix with others from the everlasting liquid lip range – I find Requiem a bit too stark and pale on me sometimes, but mixing it with a little Lolita creates an amazing dirty griege kind of shade which is much easier to wear and unique to me too!  Melancholia is one of my most recent purchases in a little duo with Susperia and I love it - it's much easier to apply than a deeper shade where you need that perfect crisp edge!

If you’ve not tried one of Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks before, what you need to know is that they’re amazingly pigmented, strong shades that apply totally opaque and smooth before drying down to a matte finish that lasts for hours.  They can be a bit drying, like most lipsticks with this staying power, so I always make sure to prep my lips well.

The Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour palette is another super popular product in the Kat Von D range.  It includes 8 matte shades - three light and three shade - which you can mix and match to contour and highlight the skin.  There’s a good choice of shades for varying skintones, and not a single one of the brown shades has even a hint of orange to it – they’re all really natural looking.  The powders are silky smooth too and very buildable and blendable, which is exactly what you need from your contour.  I also have the double ended shade and light face brush which is a real luxe, super soft brush.  One end is smaller and rounded and great for getting under those cheekbones, and the other is angled and fluffier to get that blend.

I've also got to try out one of the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipsticks for the first time - this one's in the shade Magick which is a really wearable pinky nude.  This is the first lipstick I've tried from the range (other than the liquid lipsticks) and I really like the formula - it's very creamy and easy to apply, and you get a fully opaque finish very easily.  I think it's a bit of a suits everyone shade, which is a good thing, because I'm currently giving one away on my Instagram!  If you'd like to have a chance to win, visit my instragram here - fluttersparkle - before midnight on Sunday.

I think next on my Kat Von D wish list will probably be a few bits from the Lock-It range, and maybe another liquid lipstick or two - there are so many pretty shades to choose from!

Have you tried Kat Von D before?  What's your favourite product?
