In my spring makeup bag

So yesterday an email popped wished me a happy first day of summer - I thought it was still spring until about 20 June, but hey I guess in the UK you have to take summer wherever you can get it!  Technically, weather wise it's spring from March to September, and summer occurs on a few random days here and there in between.  Anyway enough of me trying to convince you that it's not to late to talk about what's been in my spring makeup bag... let's look inside my spring makeup bag!

It's good to have a little makeup shake up now and again.  I'm terrible for buying new makeup and just randomly hoarding it for a while and continuing to use the same old stuff just because it's what's to hand.  Periodically I try to put things back into my big storage unit and rotate other bits out onto my dressing table, as well as finally allowing new things out of their packaging!

The Urban Decay all nighter makeup setting spray is a spring / summer makeup essential as keeping makeup on my face is such a challenge in the warmer weather.  Urban Decay have re-packaged all of their setting sprays with a new design, but this is still the fab original all nighter formula and I love it for the really fine spray it gives - I can be really generous with this and I still don't end up with any drips on my face!

I've been trying a new foundation lately too, and it's the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear foundation.  I really like the finish of this one - it feels light on the skin, which is just what I want at this time of year, and it contains SPF 15 too which is a nice bonus.  It's a really lovely fluid consistency which applies really easily with a sponge and gives me a strong medium coverage that lasts all day, which considering how light this feels on the skin, I'm really impressed with.  I've also been trying out the La Base Pro hydra glow makeup primer.  This is an illuminating primer which also helps keep skin hydrated under makeup.  This is lovely stuff and you really can see the difference in terms of glow and dewiness when you wear this under the foundation.  The finished result is gorgeous, but sadly for me with a very oily t-zone, it's all a little bit too much on warmer days.  I'll now use this sparingly to give just a little bit of glow and try to avoid the nose completely, and if it's really hot out, I have to skip this completely and switch to something mattifying.

I'm sure I've moaned about dryness under the eyes for many a paragraph in the past, so I'll try not to go on again, but seriously some concealers just look so cakey, crepey and dry under my eyes and it's really not a good look!  Hydrating concealers are something I'm always on the look out for, and the Amazing Concealer Hydrate fits the bill perfectly.  It's a creamy stick concealer which I dot on quite generously under my eyes and blend with fingers to keep the coverage as a sponge tends to blend it out a bit too much.  It's a medium coverage concealer, and personally I would prefer it to be high coverage just because I'm so conscious of darkness under my eyes, but I think this is probably the compromise if I want the hydration, which this one really delivers - crepey-ness be gone!  I have the shade fair, which is the lightest in the range, and just right for brightening under the eyes.

Benefit Ka-brow has been playing a solid supporting role in my makeup since around April when I first tried it, and I'm really getting on well with it.  I have the second darkest shade, 05 deep, and although it's a little warmer than my brows, it's a pretty good match.  It's a brow pomade not dissimilar to the one from Anastasia, but so far has lasted much better without drying out and hardening!

My mascara crush of the moment is the Tarte Tarteist Mascara, which as with most mascaras, I've fallen more in love with it as it's started to dry out a little bit.  It's a very black, very bold mascara which quickly and easily builds intense lashes.  It smudges on my bottom lashes, but so does everything else, so no marks deducted for that.

Despite the changes in season my love for matte liquid lipsticks just isn't going anywhere, although I have at least ditched the deep mauve and berry shades and have been reaching for, you guessed it, pinky nudes!  I adore the formula of both the Stila stay all day liquid lipstick and the Jouer long-wear lip crème - they're matte but not all that drying, they're light weight on the lips, super pigmented and they last all day long.  Love, love, love.  I have these ones in minis from sets I bought so that I could try lots of different colours and these are my current favourites.  Left to right they are - Jouer crème brûlée, Jouer buff, Stila Patina and Stila Baci.

This gorgeous, gorgeous highlight from Laura Geller is one of my favourite things in my spring makeup bag and really lifts any look and gives it a glowy pink spring vibe.  I've been eyeing up the Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl illuminators for ages, wondering if they were worth the hype, and they truly are.  I have the shade charming pink which is a very pale, almost champagne shade with a pearlessence and very subtle hint of pink.  The formula is beautiful too, it's not at all chunky or glittery, it's buttery smooth and silky and leaves nothing but a super sheeny glow that's really noticeable on the skin without being OTT.  I definitely need to get more shades asap.

Last but not least is the eyeshadow palette that I've been using to death - hence this is an older image of it from my instagram - it's currently looking a lot less pristine than this!  It's the MUA Burning Embers palette and I'm obsessed with the shades.  It's such a versatile palette as it has mattes and shimmer shades, including plenty of browns for the crease as well as creams and whites for the brow bone.  I love the gold and bronze shimmer shades and have even been using the pink and cranberry shimmers.  This palette's already been away with me on two mini breaks this year and it'll be coming along again next time.  100% the best palette MUA have brought out in ages.

So there you go - now it's probably time I rotate this little lot back into the stash and decide what's going into my summer makeup bag!

Have any of these featured in your spring makeup bag too?
