Christmas gift ideas: Men's fragrance - Hugo Boss Bottled and Bvlgari Man Extreme

My boyfriend hates spending money on aftershave.  To him all the nice ones seem expensive, and if there were a Tesco value aftershave out there (maybe there is? don't tell him!) he'd probably make do with that.  However, he's more than happy to wear a really nice aftershave if he gets it as a gift.  I want him to smell good, so I get him aftershave for birthdays, Christmas, Valentine's etc.  I guess it's a win / win situation.

Considering I'm in the aftershave shopping driving seat, I get to choose the scent, and generally Dan's happy to be guided by what I like.  I prefer him to wear quite bold scents that I can easily detect on him, and I like them to be citrusy, fresh, water type 'manly' fragrances if that makes sense!  One of my all time favourites is Davidoff Cool Water (I even used to wear it myself before I realised that was a bit weird), and I always seem to pick out scents which are of a similar fragrance family to that.

I have two fragrances to pop under the tree this year.  Firstly, Hugo Boss Bottled in limited edition collector's packaging.  This is the one from the Gerard Butler ad - if ever a man could sell me an aftershave it's him... well him and David Beckham.  The ad made me laugh a little when I first saw it as he keeps saying things about how much of a man he is, but can forgive because he's totally smouldering, and the Boss Bottled scent is just the kind I like.

The fragrance description tells me that this fresh, strong scent is made up of top notes of apple and citrus fruits, mid notes of geranium, cinnamon and cloves and base notes of sandalwood, vetiver, cedarwood, olivewood, amber and musk.  It's quite the mix, ad gives a really strong scent which I really like.  It probably has a bit more depth and is a little more woody than I usually go for, but it still has those citrusy notes too and I really like it.

The second fragrance I'll be giving this Christmas is Bvlgari Man Extreme.

This one has top notes of pink grapefruit and Mediterranean cactus, mid notes of freesia, amber and cardamom and base notes of balsa wood and vetiver.  This is another really masculine scent.  It has that fresh citrusy mix, but also a woody dry down - yep that's a technical fragrance term I learnt today! The Bvlgari Man Extreme has some similar notes to the Hugo Boss Bottled, but its scent doesn't pack quite so much of an intense punch.

I've actually bought this one for Dan before, and he really liked it, and as I did too I thought I'd go for it again.  It also holds a bit of a funny memory for us - the first time I gave this to him he'd not come across Bvlgari before and pronounced it absolutely ridiculously.  I still make fun of him for it :)

Bvlgari Man Extreme is also available at Boots and costs £45 for 60ml.

  1. Boss Bottled is my favourite scent that my OH wears - I absolutely adore it, it makes me go weak at the knees haha! Next would be Chanel Platinum Egoiste xx

    1. Oooh I've not sniffed that one, thanks lovely x

  2. Oooh, that Hugo Boss cologne smells amazing; it's been a favorite of mine since the '90s! My guy doesn't wear cologne at all, even though I've gotten him a few bottles. He'd wear some if I remind him to; otherwise, it's pretty much the lowest on his list of priorities. Haha.

    1. Haha I know what you mean - My boyfriend actively rejects any hint of a 'beauty routine' that I might try to get him into :)

  3. Great post - super helpful ideas! :)

Let me know what you think, and feel free to leave your blog link! I really appreciate every comment and always reply to questions x
