Models Own Chrome eyeshadow palette review and swatches

Best known for awesome nail polish of course, Models Own occasionally venture into cosmetics too.  Following their recent lipstick and lipgloss launches which were inspired by the hypergel nail polishes, they've now released some new eye palettes which are also linked to their polish lines.  I've been experimenting with the super shiny Models Own Chrome palette, which of course reminds me of the Colour Chrome polish collection of molten metallic shades.

Firstly I have to give a quick mention to the gorgeous packaging because, well, it's rose gold!  Models Own couldn't have picked a more on trend, pretty finish, and it compliments the chrome and metallic theme so nicely.  I'll be taking great care not to scratch this palette!

On first opening the palette and taking a closer look at the shades, I must admit I was a little worried about the quality of the makeup it contained.  Something about the shiny, almost plasticky finish reminded me of some of the questionable makeup I owned in my early teens!  But, as soon as I swatched these six liquid metal cream shadows, that déjà vu was gone, because these are some super richly pigmented, metallic cream shades.  You get six shades from shimmering white and silver through to rich, deep bronze tones.  The darker shades do seem to have a better colour payoff and are really reflective and catch the light.  They also show up better on the skin, whereas the lightest, more glittery shades might double up well as a highlight if applied sparingly.

All of the shades have a great, smooth formula which is really easy to blend and build, aside from the white-silver shade on the far left, which tends to leave more of a glitter finish without so much coverage.  The formula is much more prone to creasing than a powder shadow, so you'll probably want to apply a primer, especially if you have oily lids like me.  Due to the texture I think these are best applied and blended with fingers, and you may then want to use a fluffy brush to blend out the edges - I'm not a fan of the little sponge applicators that come with the palette.

The two more bronze shades on the right of the palette are my favourite, and I'd buy the palette even just for those - at £5.99 it's well worth the money in my opinion.

The Models Own Chrome eye palette is available now at Models Own and Superdrug and you'll also find similar palettes in powder shadow form, in nude and smoky shades.

  1. They look super intense! I personally prefer cream ones like these instead of pressed pigments. I hope this will be available in my country soon! :)
